St. Bartholomew's RC, Melrose, NB - Selected Register Extracts

The following records were extracted as part of some research I did on behalf of a friend. She was interested in Chrysostom McLellan and his wife, Annie Mahan. While Annie's family is from New Brunswick, Chrysostom hails from Indian River, PEI, and is somehow connected to the MacLellan families of Indian River and Grand River. Unfortunately, I have not yet fit him into the larger picture regarding the Island MacLellan family.

The majority of the records I have listed below involve the relatives of Annie Mahan. However, I also extracted some others which mention people that I believe have Prince Edward Island roots or connections. Specifically, this latter group includes the surnames MacLellan, MacInnis, and MacIntyre.

This twenty sixth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty six I have baptized the following (1) James born the second of last may from the lawful marriage of Dennis Mahoney and Helene Barry. Sp. James Brown & Mary Barry.

This fifteenth day of May 1848 I have baptized: Helen, born the 29th of last April of the lawful marriage of Dennis Mahoney & Helen Barry. Present, John Walsh & Helen Mahoney.

This 17 day of January 1869, I baptized Mary Louisa, aged 3 weeks and born of the lawful marriage of Patrick Riley & Mary Mahoney. Sp: George Dalton & Margaret Dalton.

This fifteenth day of January 1871, I baptized Anne Louisa born the 24 of December of the lawful marriage of Patrick Riley & Mary Mahoney. Sp. James Barry & Ellen Mahoney.

This 16th October 1871, I baptized Wm. Henry born the 1st day of October and of the lawful marriage of Stephen McLeland and Flora McGinnis. Sp: Bartholomew Hennessy & Sarah Ann Hennessy.

This third day of August 1873 I have baptized John Frederick born on the 19th of October of the lawful marriage of Patrick Riley and Mary Mahoney. Sp: Patrick Mahoney & Helen Welsh.

The twenty sixth day of December 1874 the body of Frederick Riley, child of Patrick Riley and Mary Mahoney aged sixteen months Present: the father, [?] Shea, [?] Barry.

The 2 day of January 1875 the body of Anna Louisa Riley, lawful child of Patrick Riley & Mary Mahoney, aged 4 years, was buried in the cemetery.

This fifteenth April 1877 I baptized Anna Ellen born the 14 March of the lawful marriage of Patrick Riley and Mary Mahoney. Sp: Jeremiah Mahoney & Elizabeth Brown.

The eighteenth of February 1878 after publication of banns between John Ahern, widower of the late Catherine Murphy of this place of the one part and Sarah Ann McIntyre of Prince Edward Island daughter of Neil McIntyre and Mary McLelland after receiving their mutual consent to marriage I undersigned have given them the nuptial benediction in presence of Frank Bradley and Mary Joyce.

The same day [19 October 1879] I baptized Cornelius Leo, born the 10th inst. of the lawful marriage of John Ahern & Sarah McIntyre. Sp. John James Mahoney & Mary Dalton. [a note added to this record states - "married [torn] Murphy May 17th 1909].

The first day of February eighteen hundred and eighty - Thomas Fitzpatrick and Mary Jane McLelan were married by banns by the undersigned in presence of James Larkins & Marceline Brown.

This nineteenth day of September 1880, I baptized Anna Louisa aged five weeks and born of the lawful marriage of Thomas Fitzpatrick and Mary Jane McLellan. Sp: Thomas Butler and Catherine Butler.

This 19 day of June 1881 I interred in the cemetery of this parish the body of Denis Mahoney, consort of Ellen Barry, aged 77 years. Present James Carroll, James Barry & many others.

This thirtieth day of October 1881 I baptized Michael Alphonsus aged three weeks and born of the lawful marriage of John Ahern, Sarah McIntyre. Sp: Edward Walsh & Bridget Murphy.

This fifteenth day of April [1883] I baptized Patrick Bradley aged 3 weeks born of the lawful marriage of John Ahern & Sarah McIntyre. Sp: John Savage & Mary Joyce.

On the 6th day of August 1884, having dispensed in the publication of the banns of marriage between Patrick G. Mahoney son of Denis Mahoney and Ellen Barry of this parish of the one part and Mary Sweeney, eldest daughter of Jeremiah Sweeney & Catherine Sullivan also of this parish of the other part having discovered no impediments to marriage after having received their mutual consent to marriage I have given them the nuptial benediction in the presence of Michael Riley & Julia Sweeney.

On the 28th of December 1884 I baptized Ellen Augusta aged three days of the legitimate marriage of Patrick G. Mahoney & Mary Sweeney. Sp: Mr. James Barry & Mrs. Jerry Sweeney.
