Hickey Family History Project
A Piece of Mine: The Family and Descendants of Joseph Charles Hickey
Work on the family history book was completed in July of 2002 and orders were filled and shipped during late July and early August. I now believe that all who requested copies have received them. Additional copies are still available for those who either did not receive one last summer or who would like extras.
The book is photocopied, 8.5x11 inches in size with laminated covers, and Cerlox (plastic comb) bound. It consists of approximately 50 pages of texts and photos.
The Table of Contents for the book are as follows:
- Chapter 1: Introduction
- Chapter 2: The Early Hickey Families on PEI
- Chapter 3: The Ancestors of Joseph Charles Hickey
- Chapter 4: The First Generation - Joseph Charles Hickey and Marie Evangeline Gaudet
- Chapter 5: The Second Generation - Joe and Eva's Children
- Chapter 6: The Third Generation - Joe and Eva's Grandchildren
- Chapter 7: The Fourth Generation - Joe and Eva's Great Grandchildren
- Chapter 8: The Fifth Generation - Joe and Eva's Great-Great Grandchildren
- Chapter 9: La Famille Gaudet - The Ancestors of Eva Gaudet
I sincerely hope that everyone was pleased with the finished project.
Please note that the Hickey Family History deals specifically with, and has been compiled exclusively for, the descendants of Joe Hickey and Eva Gaudet. It is only available to the members from this particular branch of the Hickey family. At the present time, neither the sample page nor the book itself will be distributed to anyone outside of the immediate family.
I would appreciate if family members could continue to keep me apprised of any changes regarding the family history. This will allow me to update the information originally published in our family history, "A Piece of Mine" (see below). Although the book, in that form, has been completed, printed, and distributed, genealogy is truly never finished - families are constantly changing and growing.
Hickey Reunion - August 2000
The reunion held at Slemon Park in August 2000 was very well-attended with representatives from four generations of the family on-hand. There were only a few who could not make it due to other family or work commitments, and their absence was regretted by all.
Congratulations and many thanks must be passed along to the organizing committee of Bette Hickey, Helen MacKinnon, and Cathy MacDonald for planning and arranging this fine event. The only complaint, if it can truly be considered such, is that the day ended all too quickly. Old acquaintances were re-affirmed, and new ones created, at the first full gathering of the family in many years. Indeed, it was the first within the lifetimes of the youngest generations. Let's hope there are many more reunions to come!!
Thanks also to Father Joseph Brazel, Parish Priest at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Grand River, who attended the event and gave blessing.
I have removed the reunion photos from the site. However, family members wishing to see them can contact me and I will gladly forward copies via e-mail.
