The Palladium, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: Vital Statistics, Sep. 1843 to May 1845

This book contains all birth, marriage, and death notices that appear in surviving issues of the Palladium newspaper. It also contains many other articles that refer to the vital statistics of Islanders and other Maritimers, both at home and abroad. Although the first two books only mentioned Island vital statistics, this one includes notices referring to Maritimers as a whole. I hope the additional information on individuals from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick will assist those who, like many Islander researchers, have roots throughout the three Maritime provinces. All articles have been transcribed in their entirety, and even the original spelling and grammar has been maintained. Events that were reported on in more than one issue have been cross-referenced by date of publication.

  • 260 separate birth, marriage and death announcements
  • Indexed - 650 names

Progress, Summerside: Vital Statistics, July 1866 - May 1869

Although the dates overlap with those for the Herald, the Progress does not include all of the same articles and announcements. While there are some duplications between the two, roughly half of the announcements published in the Progress did not appear in the Herald.

As with its predecessors, this book contains all birth, marriage, and death notices that appear in surviving issues of the Progress newspaper. It also contains many other articles that refer to the vital statistics of Islanders and other Maritimers, both at home and abroad. This book follows the same format as the Palladium compilation and includes notices referring to Maritimers as a whole. I hope the additional information on individuals from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick will assist those who, like many Islander researchers, have roots throughout the three Maritime provinces.

Work on this compilation is in progress (no pun intended). I have not set a date for publication as other commitments, both personal and professional, have taken priority. I will update this page as new information becomes available.

Royal Gazette & Miscellany of the Island of Saint John: Vital Statistics & Local News, Jul. 1791 - Jul. 1794

This book will contain all birth, marriage, and death notices that appear in surviving issues of the Royal Gazette & Miscellany of the Island of Saint John newspaper (these have already been transcribed and posted to this website, and can be viewed here). It will also contain all of the local news that was published in each issue of the Royal Gazette & Miscellany under the "Charlottetown" heading. I hope the combination of vital statistics and local news, compiled in a single volume, cross-referenced, and indexed, will be of use to genealogists and historians alike.

Please note that this volume does differ from my other compilations as it concentrates more on local news and advertisements than on vital statistics, due mainly to the small number of birth, marriage, and death notices it contains.

Work on this book is on-going. I have not set a date for publication as other commitments, both personal and professional, have taken priority. I will update this page as new information becomes available.

The 1878 Roman Catholic Census of Palmer Road Parish

The church register for the Roman Catholic parish of St. Thomas, Palmer Road, PEI, contains a unique census document. Completed by the priest in late 1878 and early 1879, it provides us with a snapshot of the parishioners of what was then a brand new parish, having just broken off from the much larger congregation of St. Simon and St. Jude, Tignish. Unlike the government enumerations we are used to researching, this census contained only the names of the individuals and their ages. No relationships or other details are provided, although it is obvious that families and/or households are grouped together. Despite the lack of details, it provides genealogists with important information about these families. It pre-dates the 1881 government census by at least two years, and is the only surviving enumeration of the Catholic families of that area since 1861. Thus, it serves to fill in some gaps in the extant government records.

Work on this book is currently on-hold. I have not set a date for publication, due to both the large amounts of research required and the fact that other commitments, both personal and professional, have taken priority. The price has not yet been established. I will update this page as new information becomes available.
